valentines day is approaching!
oooh the largest commercial popularity contest is fast approaching! don't you just love it? Valentine's day, what a great idea, the largest cause of relationship troubles i can think of! it causes more strife and arguements in relationships than deciding where you're gonna have christmas dinner! what an oxymoron.. it's so crazy, i know more couples who fall out because of valentines day plans than anything else..the girl wants summat special doing and grossly romantic but doesn't want to ask, the guy wants to do summat, knows he's supposed to but doesnt know what to do, but doesn't want to ask, they both wanna spend it with eachother, but neither wants to ask! daft isn't it!
i fell out with my chap when we were together coz we didnt spend it together, fact was it didn't matter to him when we celebrated valentines day be it the 14th or another day he just didn't place as much importance on the date as he did his other responsibilities, i took that as i didnt mean a lot to him..urgh, you see how confusing it is!
but me being the girlie i am i'm still looking foreward to it with nervous anticipation, i would love some SINCERE oversised romantic gesture, however you usually find it's from some vile spotty geek who you wouldnt consider, or you don't get anything at all..it is a bit of a let down to be fair! although one year i had a card come in the post, it had a poem typed in it saying "my mind is always on you, and you may disagree, that you're perfect in your beauty, the only one for me" i couldn't suss it out and me and my oh so excited friends spent ages trying to pick at the clues..it was an acrostic poem, spelling out my boyfriends name MATT and no i didn't sus it, it drove me nuts, it was all i could talk about, in the end he told me, he said he saw how much i wanted a secret valentine, so he obliged, he was scared i'd be disappointed if he told me, aww how sweet, shame it didn't stay like that :( my best valentines day was the year i got four cards, one was a happy birthday card coz the poor lad did it in a hurry and got the wrong card by mistake, bless..i kept them as trophies for years..my first valentines present was from a lad in school called simon, i was in yr 5 juniors. he got me a little silk rose, a card and a massive box of maltesers..cool! we had only started sayin we were together the day before, was quite comical actually..i wasn't miss popular but i sat opposite this kid, he was with my mate, then my best friend sent him a love letter he panicked didn't know what to do so he concluded the best solution was to go out with me instead! needless to say it didn't last.. but valentines day is good for the supremely ugly or underconfidant coz they can express how they feel without being afraid coz no one need know! defeats the object to a certain extent though, coz how can you go out with ? .. not very easy!!
i used to hate valentines day coz it solidified just how unpopular i was at school, i used to seethe watching the pretty girls tallying up their cards, and lads used to ask my advice on what card to get the girl they liked, i felt like saying NOTICE ME! forget her she's gonna have millions, i wont! i also used to find it intriguing watchin how people in relationships fell out if one got more cards than the other, it was fascinating to see the rivalry, no one likes to be the less popular person in a relationship, makes them very insecure, plus they start to wonder if the other one has gone beind their backs..and many a time have i seen a brawl when a girl finds out who it was sent her boyfriend a card!
so once again we humans have ballsed it up and what was a celebration of love is now the cause of many a feud
