what you've all been waiting for!
hi peeps well finally i've made it to sitting at my computer to tell you all a story...a story of four groovy people..four groovy people who decided to go to blackpool (for their sins!)..everyone who i told that i was going to blackpool had negative things to say about it but i'm telling you now it was brilliant! i loved every moment of out trip (i am a firm believer in the fact that it's not the place that makes the trip it's the people) and blackpool has a strange charm to it that i found quite endearing..it's a shame we've let it go to such ruin coz back in the day a holiday in blackpool was a symbol of status, i mean it is still a symbol of status today, just on the other end of the scale! it must have been an incredible place back in victorian times, and then the tower, what an amazing piece of engineering (specially when you consider that they didn't have the machinery we do now but they were so inventive!)
anyways we set off on friday evening bit of a slow start (that was coz greg kept stalling the car) greg used his talents to compile some simply superb cd's for us to listen to (thank goodness coz the traffic was untrue!) me and anx were in the back all comfy munchin on never fail fudge and strawberry squares (sorry bout the crumbs bryan!) and we were really hyped up (come to think of it it was probably all those e-numbers!) the roads were their usual rammed selves so to pass the time me and anx strated waving at people..we found lots of interesting things out like: people in minnies are the most miserable drivers on the planet (ten minutes waving not even a smirk!) we all know lorry drivers are a laff, so are white van drivers, men in puntos are very flirty (more on that in a mo), we saw a family in a people carrier all weraring the same outfit much to our amusement (they werent laughing tho!) we saw masses of ppl on ther hands free, they look so funny talking away in an empty car :D and for some strange reason people in cars seem to think they can't be seen by anyone (even though theyre 90% glass!!) they're in a world of their own pickin their noses, pullin faces, singin at the top of their lungs (although i do that too!) Anyways the roads ground to practically a halt so we decided to crank up the music, wind down the windows and get people smiling (reach for the stars on full blast) and at the opportune moment we all stuck our arms out our windows (greg and paul included) it must have been so funny to watch coz the car behind nearly went into us the guy was laughing so hard! We got to a service station for a pit stop and as we were leaving the car a guy called to us "hey you're the lot that were dancin werent you!?" he was well amused, thought it was great as did his kids..we told him we werent actually going anywhere we were just the traffic jam entertainment :D back on the road we picked up a guy in a punto, waved at him, he waved back, smiled at him he smiled back, blew kisses he blushed and blew them back, we wound up winding our windows down and keeping the cars level so we could chat, next services he pulled in and indicated for us to follow, so we met on the car park, i ascertained that he was a mechanic for peugeot rally team working in cambridge but living in preston (yes we did ask him why he had a punto- he said he wondered the same) i managed all of that but didnt get a name!! so we dubbed him leonard..we waved goodbye to him at preston and the rest of the journey was plain sailing..
We finally arrived in blackpool, it was blowing a gale! we found the road where our apartment should be but after ten munutes of driving up and down admitted defeat and called iggy (guy who runs it) we'd have been driving all night if we hadn't have called! the sign had been blown down in the wind so you couldnt see the place for looking! we scored for a proper lovely place though, the flat was great, had a breakfast bar and kitchne area attached to the lounge (also had a sofa bed and a pull out of the wall bed in it) plus a twin room and a bathroom twas lurrvly (except for the nocternal french elephants staying above!!) and it was so close to everything and the people who owned it were brilliant, they even kept all our luggage for us the day we checked out so we could go out for the day and not have to worry bout our bags being in the car, if i go again i'll stop there again..
friday night the hunter gatheres went to source food (chippy!!) while anx and i settled in (the girlie that we are!) Paul complained on his return that we'd claimed the entire cosmetics shelf and where on earth was he supposed to put his hair products!! after our grease feast we all relaxed with a drink at the flat, i did a henna tattoo for paul, then we all crashed excited by the prospect of blackpool pleasure beach in the morning..
we rose at the crack of midday the next day and headed off for the theme park, i was brickin it coz i hate roller coasters but i knew i couldnt be a wuss! it was flippin freezing all day so i was suprised at how many people were actually there..i thought the pleasure beach waa quite impressive too as it's quite a small place but they've rammed a lot of rides in there! i actually prefer it like that coz i find at alton towers you walk for years to get to anything, in the end i usually give up and go sunbathing in the chinese gardens (most expensive day's sunbathing i've had!) we stated off slowly, the dodgems (dodge being the operative word boys!) we decided to go in twos so the lads flipped for a girl so it was me and paul vs greg and anx, we LET the boys drive and i've got to say there was some pretty impressive driving from the boys, some sneaky little manouvers and an awesome pile up..me and anx spent our time looking pretty (hangin on for dear life or jeering hee hee) after that we went on this really lame ride, it looked from the outside like it was gonna be rapids but no, it was so dodgy boat thing round a bunch of cheap anamatronics covered in cob webs the boys kept us amused by stopping the boat then setting it off again and trying to catch up with the boat in front..we then had to sit at the top of this slope waiting for the boat to go down (how humiliating everyone walkin past looking at us) so we waved our arms in the air and screamed as if at the top of the log floom :D
next we did the pepsi max i tried to stall them but nothhin doing..we had to queue for an hour, gave me lenty of time to get myself worked up! we made little videos of greg destroying the australian accent much to paul's disgust and finally we were next in line..we had the back two rows on the final carriage ooooh..me and paul sat in front, i got strapped in, shaking likea leaf (no going back i was bricking it) i hate rollercoasters, its only coz when i was a kid i went on the runaway mine train, first 'fast' ride i've ever been on, and on the first time round i had an asthma attack, i couldnt do anything about it, we had to go round twice more urgh it was awful the feeling of being completely at somoene else's mercy it tainted my view then on in! anyways we're on the climb, anx is sat going oooh i don't remmeber it being this high, paul's going cool look at the view, greg getting a tad nervous..me? eyes firmly shut, hands gripping the rail so tight they were hurting, feet pushed down onto the bottom of the carriage, i was as stiff as a board and i was terrified..suddenly it went urgh the rush it was awesome and yet soooo scary, i screamed with fright but not a sound came out of my mouth, thats how scared i was, the photo is a pure image of fear but i tell you what it was such a rush, i'm buzzing just typing about it :D I DID THE PEPSI MAX! we got back and i went to undo my seatbelt (it was already undone! must have come loose during the ride!
after that we got some food, i think we'd all burned off loadza energy with the adrenaline rush! then we hit the hard stuff!!
we went on these horse race thingies, where you sit one on the front one on the back and theres three horses race at a time..so i went in front and paul sat behind, greg and anx were on the horse to the side of us and i'll tell you now i think i was more afraid than when i was on the pepsi max! i think this was an original ride from the Victorian times! the horses run on these poles below them and you have to hang on for dear life, they go up and down and jerk around and all's you've got is a loose seat belt holding you on, i was convinced we were gonna fall off, part way round i reslised why the guy said to hold on on the corners! Talk about a disclaimer! we didn't win the race, gregs came in first, but coming back to the strt gate it didn't look like our horse was gonna stop! suddenly the guy jams on the anchors and paul smacks his nuts off the central divider..nice!
next we rode the eddie stobart lorries!! how cool are we! it was so funny, i could have walked round the track faster but still not many people (apar from stobart employees) can say they rode a stobart truck! next we went on the rally cars i drove this time! we took a whole host of daft pictures, the lads tried to win stuff out of those crooked stalls, no joy then me and greg set off to get ready for the gig leaving paul and anx to the big rides :)
we walked back along the waterfront, the day before the waves had been crashing right up onto the roads, it was a bit clamer though..but the sea had dragged in different things, driftwood, seaweed, and dead birds! masses of them and all headless, we couldnt figure out where the heads had all gone!
the beddingfield gig was incredible! the support band just set the tone for the evening, they were stood on stage just outright worshipping GOD and you could so feel his presence..then Daniel came out and i truly hope he felt the support of his brothers and sisters in the audience coz we prayed for him (don't know if you've seen the flack he's getting of late for being part of a religious sect!) i looked along the line at one point in the gig and realised that the four women next to us were all christians! what a godincidence! he was so brave he went into this improvised worship and he was singing about rediscovering the joy of his salvtion, i was sat with a tear in my eye, he put on a fantastic performance, and i heard songs in a completely different light, GOD spoke to me during the concert and me and greg left buzzing!
Sunday we went to blackpool tower, we got a day ticket which got us into the aquarium, we found nemo! we went to the circus, had candy floss we went to the ball room dancin bit too, there was some incredible decor there, it was magnificent, and the dancers were so graceful, i'd love to be able to dance like them, but they had had a humour bypass and werent amused when a kid breathed too loudley in between songs! bleh! :D we did the walk of faith too..thats a piece if perspex over a 380ft shire drop to the ground..we were all like yeah no problem till we actually got there and i couldnt prize my feet off of the floor! it was so much scarier than i envisaged! a woman benhind me said that there was no danger as they reckon the perspex could hold 5 baby elephants, to which greg replied what size baby elephant though? foetus'? fair question really :D we all did the walk got piccies and video footage to proove it, then we headed for the top of the tower, it was soooooo cold but you could see for miles it was quite cool then hastily we headed for the warmth again..
sadly after that it was time to return home, we loaded up the car, got some rock to remember our trip, greg and anx got light sabers, nearly took off a fair few people's heads on the way back fighting :) so i had a class time, ive got a scrap book full of memories and three stronger bonds than i had before so i give blackpool 10/10!
